(ABHEC) Expands Recognition to International Accreditation Organizations

(ABHEC) has officially launched the Recognition of International Accreditation Organizations, marking a significant step toward global engagement and collaboration in higher education quality assurance. In January 2024, the (ABHEC) Board of Directors formed a dedicated subcommittee to evaluate this initiative. The subcommittee conducted a detailed review, assessing potential benefits, challenges, capacity, application procedures, and overall global impact. Their findings recommended extending the recognition process to international organizations under the same rigorous standards applied to domestic accrediting bodies.

Revitalizing Higher Education Requires Collaboration (University World News, September 11, 2024) The financial crisis in Lebanon has constrained higher education institutions’ investments in quality assurance, accreditation, and innovative degree programs. Many institutions now face a lack of interdisciplinary or forward-looking programs. Policymakers, faculty, students, alumni, employers, accreditation agencies, and both local and international donors must work together to support Lebanese higher education institutions in maintaining academic excellence, creativity, and research innovation.

Minister of Education Francis Fonseca highlighted the proliferation of online studies, many offered by unaccredited or illegitimate institutions following COVID-19, emphasizing the importance of maintaining rigorous accreditation standards.
